The purpose of the API Letter Writer's Guide is to better equip Alabamians to effectively communicate their ideas about timely issues to those in positions of influence - to the "culture shapers" of our day - such as state and local lawmakers, the news media and entertainment industry leaders.

A well-written letter can be powerful. A single letter to a legislator may sway his or her vote on a piece of legislation. A letter to an editor of a newspaper may reach an audience of hundreds of thousands. A letter to a TV or radio producer, or program sponsor, provides citizens with an avenue for expressing concern over programming.
