From both an historical and a contemporary vantage point, former Governor John Patterson (D-AL) describes illegal gambling's return to Alabama and discusses current state law concerning gambling.
Pending legislative debate in the Alabama State Senate, it is important to acknowledge the destructive consequences that gambling brings to society and the economy. We believe that, as this historical context shows, Alabama has had more than enough dark moments as a direct result of gambling's influence.
